Vegetables
Listening to a lot of the deeper cuts from the Beach Boys' catalog, one can't help but notice that the rest of the group gave far too much credit to Brian Wilson, even after he went all fruit loops and quit wearing shoes. I've got nothing against vegetables, as both a concept and a means of staving off starvation, but to have stronger feelings towards or against them seems pretty unnecessary. They're going to exist either way, and, being mostly inert, they tend to keep to themselves — maybe they'll rot after a while, but even then, it's a pretty passive existence. So the notion of composing a ditty about, for, or to them for anything besides educational children's television is a big waste of the energy one might get from eating them (even if you're recording the chewing sounds to later drop in as a substitution for percussion). Granted, their career was built on stumping for other things that did a fine job selling themselves (summer, surfing, girls, Manson, etc), but it's only when the well had run so completely dry that they set about harvesting the stuff growing in the cracks at the bottom.
