A lot of people say that cars give you freedom, because you can go anywhere, but I think biking gives you a certain freedom from the car. I think you experience the community more, and you interract with people more. I love cities and urban neighborhoods, and to interract with the neighborhood on a human scale feels so much better and richer than just driving around. - Matthew Staub

I work in an office all day and it gets me outside. I ride every day when it's nice out. When you are on a bike, you learn the neighborhoods, city, and see things you wouldn't see in the car. -Cayce Smith, Kansas City, Missouri

I am training for Bike Across Kansas and also RAGBRAI (Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa) this summer. Riding is also good exercise. - Pat Strand, Kansas City, Missouri

I ride bikes for a variety of reasons. Its a great way to keep in shape, both mentally and physically. It turns a redundant route to work into a sensory expedition. There's a thrill-factor and at times (in a city like Kansas City) there's a fear-factor. but most of all, rain or shine, its really really fun. - Charlie Burt, Kansas City, Missouri

I ride because I enjoy being outdoors and a bicycle is free transportation. I also work near where I live. Once you know the area, riding a bike may be quicker than driving. - Mike Nolte, Kansas City, Missouri

I enjoy riding a bike because you notice more, much more, of your surroundings than if you were in a car. The wind feels nice and if the distance is short, the ride takes about the same amount of time as driving. On a bike, I am more willing to explore different routes. Hopefully the positives outweigh all the things people yell at you at the end of the day.
Call me Larry David but I ride because I live and work downtown, the insane inefficiencies of the stop light system is enough to bring a man to drink (more) and with our lackluster public trans us bikers have the entire bus lane to ourselves!
An added bonus, people downtown are quite courteous to bikers and more often than not award us the right of way. Also a guy asked me to do a wheelie once and a homeless man raced me down the street (I assume he was racing me).
THAT is why I ride. Wind in my hair, backpack toting, free pedaling downtown with a wheelie on demand or two.
